Selected topics of public law

Then come to the "Selected Topics in Public Law" course organised by the Faculty of Law's teaching department. Here you will learn the basics of other areas of public law, e.g:

• What is a trade within the meaning of the GewO and what obligations apply to standing trades, travelling trades and market trades?
• When does a construction project exist and under what conditions am I entitled to a building permit?
• What is an installation under immission control law, when does it require authorisation and what powers does the supervisory authority have?
• What safety requirements apply under the Product Safety Act, the Federal Immission Control Act or the Genetic Engineering Act?
• What is waste and what legal obligations arise from the Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management Act?
• What can be patented as a technical invention, obtain plant variety protection as a breeding or discovery or when am I the author; what are the rights arising from an intellectual property right?
• What is personal data and what requirements does data protection law impose for its processing?
• When does a ban on cartels apply?
• What are the requirements of public procurement law?
• What are the requirements for a permissible aid and/or subsidy?

As this is an in-depth course, you should have already successfully completed the course Public Law (or Introduction to Law for Engineers). In particular, the course Public Law (as a compulsory course) cannot be replaced by the course Selected Topics in Public Law.

The course is offered in the winter semester and can be taken in the area of key competences/studium generale. It comprises 2 SWS and 5 ECTS can be earned with a 90-minute written examination. There is also intensive preparation for the exam.

Please note that the course is only offered in German and is taught in a specialised language.
